Its legislative functions include enacting ordinances (laws) and resolutions, establishing programs, and setting policies. The President of the Police Jury is the head of parish government, presides over meetings, and is the only authority in the parish allowed to declare a disaster. The Police Jury is similar to commissions or councils that govern counties in other states.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Vernon Parish has twelve (12) elected <strong>Police Jurors<\/strong> who represent their districts &#8211; they are elected every four (4) years. As a body, they elect a <strong>President<\/strong> and a <strong>Vice President<\/strong> who serve one (1) year terms. James B. Tuck is the current President and has been serving in that role since 2007. Curtis L.
